I had a valve blow out of my water softener and was glad I had a couple of these in the basement to let me know that a flood was on the way. One is at the softener and the other at the base of the water heater.

Over the years, we’ve had a basement fitting split, a pipe split, a water heater start leaking and the previous softener tank fail

It used to be days for us between the times we would be in the basement so its nice to have notification at the start of a leak rather than a week later when you walk into the shop and you notice a squish in the carpet..... It’s cheap insurance.

Thanks. I went to HD after your initial post. I learned that water leak detectors that can send you a text and can automatically shut off your main exist.

We got something similar, but no WiFi. It just makes a really loud noise, like a smoke detector. We bought two, and put one dangling inside the sump and another below our water heater. So far it's only gone off once, when the pump in the sump splashed it just right.
